I genuinely feel like this is why I get bored in many social situations. If we aren’t talking deeply about something or telling stories that make little movies in my head or playing games either strategy or something to fill the void I’m bored as all hell. Love this topic and your insight

I think it’s crazy that some people don’t have an inner monologue!!

Same here! It’s so hard to picture that since it’s something that we have innately

I wonder if the reason they don’t hear a voice is because they lack a soul? If you believe in souls of course.

I don’t believe that’s true. The science behind it isn’t fully understood, but from what I understand their imagination is simply different 😊

I know some people see shapes etc.

I hear my own voice personally. Like right now I’m outside the vets and thinking to myself why some owners let their dogs be all aggressive.

I deleted my last comment because I meant it for another article. Lol!

I dedicate three days a week to tutoring and babysitting a lively five-year-old kindergartener. Her boundless imagination captivates me completely. I'm utterly drawn to her energy and creativity. Being with her reignites memories of my own imaginative childhood. Our time together rejuvenates my own creativity. Thank you for this incredible article!

Super interesting. You mention that mental imagery/imagination actually declines in adulthood and I think reading is the key. I have never felt so inspired as when I read a book, especially when I read fantasy. The creation of worlds within my head feels like a cog is turning and I feel healthier for it. It’s a skill, you could say, used for inspiration and peace of mind.

YES! This is such a stunning way of putting it. I could even argue that my mental imagery has increased and become more robust with all of the books I've read. I don't see it declining anytime soon.

Totally - my imagination has increased ten-fold with more books. I guess seeing new perspectives fully allows you to walk in the shoes of so many, which allows you to be very aware of things you may never have thought of.
