We all know by now that I’m character and writing driven. I have to dig deep to do research, and I have to convince myself to plan. I’d say I’ve had two attempts at writing a book, and I’m now on my third. The first was too rigid, no creative license. The second was too loose, with too many questions and holes. The third, dare I say, is just right? (note: I had to)
I’m not very patient. When I know I want something, I will jump headfirst. I don’t like waiting. (This is also probably why it’s hard to be twenty-three for me). Either way, I’ve learned so much about my personal writing process through my attempts. I need to be able to write freely, but I also need to have some level of background information and guidance.
This is particularly true for the one I’m working on right now because these two characters came with me from my first writing attempt. I love them and have dreamt about them for a year. While I knew the first world didn’t fit, I knew my characters did. I’m taking them to a different world this time, so it’s pretty crucial for me to know that this is the right world for them.
I have spent the last week and a half planning. I had a loose idea of what I wanted in my head, but I had nothing concrete. I started writing officially on Monday (I have three paragraphs lol). I decided to take it piece by piece:
